It is a short-term, focused process that uses dispute resolution techniques in a cooperative problem-solving manner. Underlying issues are rapidly identified, professional interventions are developed, and livable agreements are reached. These agreements are then memorialized in a Memorandum of Understanding in order to avoid future misunderstandings.

Many couples experience progress in the very first session that continues throughout mediation. Frequently, all issues are resolved and livable agreements are made within the first month.
